Why should anyone share their ideas?

anon_vupo said in #3064 3w ago:

Say one figured out the problems of today and how to solve such things. Why share these ideas when others take your good ideas to develop their own society whereas you gain nothing but spent time?

Sharing ideas only seems to make sense when competing against others in an existing system. If you are not part of that system, the chance of being able to make significant connections seems minimal.

In technology, there's a definite application of this problem. If you don't have the means of production, you're just an unpaid research lab working for whoever does. In political matters, if you're a true outsider, I suppose you have no reason to think on behalf of whatever strange tribe you're near. But even then, you could join them. These things aren't out of your control. In fact it's sort of a self fulfilling prophecy: if you cut yourself off because you think you have no incentive to help, you become an outsider. If you engage in society and share your ideas, you make friends and connections around that that help put your ideas into practice to your benefit.

I would be very happy to make more friends and connections. Maybe I can see if it's possible to make a big tent political group.

It is not about whatever strange tribe and not fitting in. It is that groups themselves are usually dogmatic. I wouldn't mind staying in a society, but the society I grew up in I think is gone. I wonder if I can ever settle down when nowhere feels right, but only if you settle down do your ideas make an impact on those around you.

I suppose like family this mobility between societies and worlds is not actually that high. Loneliness is societal friction of this in-between process. At some point people have to make do with what's around them, but it's much later in life than it should be, and it's more tolerance and familiarity than actual connection.

Perhaps those with similar ideas can be found through internet posting, but they risk getting perverted to their own ends. Ideas of universal kindness become open borders and disorder; love for your group becomes your group above all.

Despite open-mindedness, nobody truly can accept everything. Neither can I. Humans chat, figure out where they connect or don't, and then disappear to their own ends. Nikola Tesla wanted free electricity; business titans hated the idea. What one thinks is beautiful makes no sense to another person.

I would be very happ

Because the benefits of coordination and playing iterated games are pretty large, and greedy optimization doesn't make sense in practice.

Because the benefits

I have shared my ideas many times, to many people, even in national "respectable" media outlets. At the most you will have wordcels and influencers wannabes stealing all your ideas and making them small. Not worth it.
