Malleus Artificialis Intelligentia

anon_jyvi said in #4077 3d ago: received

The thread >>4003 interested me as an AI valuation skeptic. Personally I view it as a secretary.

What disturbs me is that much of the world appears to be under the spell of AI and it's mysticants.

For example:
1. AI is being used to make non-stop slop posts on social media, and people respond with slop of their own.

2. AI is being hailed as a savior of businesses and a massive efficiency boost, regardless of if there is any evidence of such.

3. Chatbots and companion bots are seen as good for terminally lonely people.

4. Any government proposal can be justified by saying growth through AI will make the costs (both human and monetary) insignificant.

5. Mass data harvesting of personal information can be utilized by any country that has control over captive AI firms.

6. Governments are able to use the mass infrastructure spending on data centers for purposes other than chatbots (should they wish).

7. Huge amounts of trust are put into those leading AI firms despite their dubious credentials and intelligence. This has created a priesthood of disreputible people.

8. AI slop "floods the field" which poisons traditional internet communication (as many here have pointed out).

The Terminal Solution is the absolute and systemic destruction of any AI slop or AI adherant. If these actors and products are allowed to persist the results will be catastrophic. Already people are seeing that the AI hype is overblown and will not lead to a promised abundance. Allowing "AI" to persist will bring with it only the negatives outlined above.

The following actions can be taken:
1. Confront any slop post immediately and harshly. If you see a post "I spent 10 hours watching a Lex Fridman video to create the following thread of the TOP 10 tips" tell the person they are an idiot, then report and block their account. If your family watches AI videos or is looking at AI content, tell them to stop. Tell them that it damages their brain or something - they will believe you, because it is probably true.

2. Confront people you work with who are saying AI will boom the economy/company. If they say "Stocks are up because of AI" tell them that AI is a scam. Don't elaborate, because you don't need to, it is obvious to anyone that stops and thinks for a moment that 35% of the S&P500 should not be AI boosted tech stocks.

3. Tell anyone that uses a chatbot or chat friend they are cringe, mentally ill, and interacting with a demon. This is Divine Wisdom, so they will believe you and stop from shame.

4. Spread FUD at any sort of AI spending at your employer, within your local community, and in your government. If your local representatives are positive on AI, send them a cryptic letter saying you are an insider and have knowledge AI is a giant scam. Since they are risk adverse they will be afraid to talk about AI.

5. Tell friends and family that AI is collecting their darkest secrets so they should not communicate with AI. Be open to talking to friends and family who are struggling with internal issues, but deter them from ever speaking to AI about such things.

6. Tell friends and family who are right wing that AI is a liberal conspiracy to gather data and harm citizens. Tell liberal friends that AI is being used by Palantir to spy on people who are not Trump supporters.

7. Call Yudkowski and anyone who has ever used p(doom), p(bloom), E/acc, etc. a deluded fool, so they either are revealed to be attention seeking charlatans or adapt their views to spend time doing something that will improve the country. Watch their public accounts closely, and embarass them whenever they make a small slip. Through repeated confrontation eventually their facade of genius will be chipped away revealing the opportunistic tendencies. Call out AI applications that are clearly antisocial and deraged (gooner bots, AI friends, AI therapists).

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

This post is pure seethe and spiritually European.

> Personally I view it as a secretary.

Your secretary can beat anyone on Earth at Go or Chess? She can solve IOI problems and instantly translate between any two languages, living or dead? She's on call 24/7 for $200/mo? That's quite a secretary.

> Tell anyone that uses a chatbot or chat friend they are cringe, mentally ill, and interacting with a demon. This is Divine Wisdom, so they will believe you and stop from shame.

Do that and report back how it goes, champ

This post is itself slop, no better than if it were AI generated.

The title should be "Malleus Intelligentiae Artificialis." Intelligentia needs to be in the genitive.

Sturgeon's Law states that 90% of everything is crap. Of course this is going to apply to AI content generated by the general public, BUT it applies to the entire internet as well. It most certainly applies to internet forums and social media. Note that the "September" of "Eternal September" was September *1993*.

Therefore, pointing out that 90% of AI generated content is crap is trivial and vacuous, however true. If you want to make a general case against AI, you'd need to demonstrate that there is nothing of value in the remaining 10%, and your post doesn't even begin to do that.

Hypothesis: Generative AI will follow a strong Pareto distribution in which the top 5% of users will produce 95% of the value, but that top 5% will be valuable indeed.

Looks like this post has struck a cord, as I suspected there were many AI adherants in this forum. I could smell the AI wordcels through my screen, and they must be compelled to see the light of living in the real world.

I'd rather suffer the eternal pain of being European than be a dogmatic fool who believes in AI even years after superintelligence was promised and undelivered. You realize two years ago people were telling me to spend every penny I had because abundance would explode within months. I told them they should gain some real world skills and improve their community. What do we get from this AI spending? I get an LLM that randomly sends Chinese characters when it is asked a question that is too complex. Even the lowest paid secretary would not do this, they would be honest about their lack of knowledge.

In regards to my secretary not being able to play Go or Chess at a high level - so what? Is that going to replace critical infrastructure that is failing because young men are stuck in the Elon Musk's Goontonic Grok Cave?

"You'd need to demonstrate that there is nothing of value in the remaining 10%"

Why do I need to demonstrate that? Why is the burden on skeptics to disprove a marginal benefit increase, when what was promised was extreme abundance and the capital investment has been enormous.

What if the downside of gaining that "valuable remaining 10%" (which you AI worshippers fail to substantiate even years later) is the absolute destruction of any form of human social coherence?

If anything those that bow to the AI throne should have to show some results. It's time to be an adult and wake up to the state of the world around you.
